ActBlue Accounts for 41% of Bodnar’s Campaign Donations amid Probe
ActBlue donated $865,293 to Seth Bodnar’s campaign from March 9 to May 13th.
Seth Bodnar, an independent Senate candidate in Montana, has received 41 percent of his donations from ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.
ActBlue is currently under congressional investigation for allegedly accepting fraudulent and foreign donations to benefit Democratic causes and candidates.
Regina Wallace-Jones, ActBlue’s CEO, testified before the House Administration Committee this week, during which she invoked the Fifth Amendment repeatedly and did not answer questions about accusations of donor fraud.
The New York Post reported in April that other ActBlue employees had invoked their Fifth Amendment rights at least 146 times when discussing donor fraud with congressional committees.
ActBlue has been under congressional investigation since 2023.
As a candidate, Bodnar, a former University of Montana professor, has received $2.1 million for his Senate campaign, according to the FEC.
ActBlue donated $865,293 to Bodnar’s campaign from March 9 to May 13th. The Democratic fundraising platform made 825 donations over this period, averaging 13 per day.
Alani Bankhead, who is the Montana Democratic Party’s nominee for Senate, has received only $23,884 in donations so far for her campaign. FEC records show that ActBlue has not donated to Bankhead’s campaign.
Bodnar has received donations from Democrats, including former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, who gave $1,000 to Bodnar, according to FEC records.
On top of this, Bodnar has received the backing of Democratic billionaire Reid Hoffman, who funded part of E. Jean Carroll’s civil lawsuits against President Donald Trump. Hoffman has given $7,000 to Bodnar’s campaign, according to FEC records.
Democratic-leaning organizations such as the American Association for Justice PAC and League of Conservation Voters have also thrown their weight behind Bodnar.
The American Association for Justice PAC donated $1,000 to Bodnar’s campaign, and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) gave the former college president $50, according to FEC records.
LCV endorsed Bodnar last week.
“People across the country cannot afford the rising energy costs caused by Trump and his MAGA allies in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Sara Chieffo. “LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse these candidates who are committed to fighting for clean energy solutions and a free and fair democracy for all.
Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan election analyzer, rates Montana’s Senate race as favoring Republicans.
