Montana Congressional Delegation Reacts to Israel-Iran Ceasefire: ‘Peace Through Strength’
President Donald Trump has asked Israel and Iran to not violate the ceasefire.
Montana’s congressional delegation praised President Donald Trump for his efforts in landing a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
On Monday, Trump announced the deal between the two countries after America bombed nuclear sites in Iran last weekend. The extent of damage to Iran’s nuclear sites remains unclear.
In retaliation, Iran launched missiles at an American military base in Qatar on Monday; however, Trump stated the missiles did not cause significant harm.
In his declaration of a ceasefire, Trump said, “This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!”
After the announcement, Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) called it “great news for the United States, Israel, and the world.”
“President Trump promised to restore peace through strength, and he’s delivering,” he explained.
Montana’s other senator, Steve Daines (R-MT), said the ceasefire announcement was “amazing news.” He added that Trump showed “once again that peace through strength works.”
In the other congressional chamber, both Montana’s elected officials echoed similar talking points about the situation.
Rep. Troy Downing (R-MT-02) said what had occurred “was extraordinary leadership from” Trump.
“This is what peace through strength looks like,” the first-time representative said.
Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT-01) thanked Trump for his role in resolving this conflict.
“Peace through strength,” Zinke said.
‘Questions remain about how long this ceasefire will remain in place between Israel and Iran. On Truth Social, Trump asked both countries not to violate the ceasefire.
After the ceasefire took effect, Trump accused both countries of violating it.
Specifically, the president told Israel not to drop bombs on Iran. He told Israel that if it dropped the bombs, it would be a “major violation” of the ceasefire.
Israel accused Iran of violating the ceasefire after it went into place. Iran denied the allegation.
“Bring your pilots home, now!” Trump stated.
After this Truth Social post, the president followed up with another one that said Israel would not be attacking Iran.
“All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump said.
The short feud began between Israel and Iran on June 13 after Israel launched strikes at Iranian military officials, nuclear scientists and an Iranian politician overseeing the talks between Iran and America. When these strikes occurred, America was attempting to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran. These talks had been taking place for over two months.
Following these strikes by Israel, the negotiations came to an end.
Up until the ceasefire that went into effect on Tuesday, Israel and Iran launched air attacks at each other.
According to The Associated Press, during this short feud between the two Middle Eastern countries, 28 people were killed in Israel and over 1,000 people were wounded. In Iran, nearly 1,000 people have been killed, along with almost 3,500 others injured.
Currently, Israel is also dealing with another war between it and Palestine. The war started on Oct. 7, 2024, when Hamas attacked Israel and killed over 1,200 people. More than 240 people were taken hostage during this attack by Hamas as well. Over half of these hostages have been returned to Israel.
Since this attack, Israel has killed over 55,000 Palestinians and wounded almost 130,000 people. In November 2024, the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Office said 70 percent of the people Israel killed were women and children.
Furthermore, the UN found Gaza had suffered extreme damage from Israeli attacks. It is estimated that 92 percent of residential buildings were either destroyed or damaged.
The war between Israel and Palestine is still ongoing.
