Montana Senators Co-Sponsor Bill to Deport Illegal Immigrants Who Assault Police, Firefighters
"Our lawmakers must always back the men and women who protect and serve our communities"
Sens. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and Steve Daines (R-MT) co-sponsored a bill last week that says if an illegal immigrant assaults a police officer, firefighter or first responder, it is a “deportable offense.”
The bill is called the Protect Our Law Enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act of 2025.
The main sponsor of this bill is Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC), who had tried to introduce it before, but Democrats shut it down when they had the Senate majority.
“One of the best ways we can support law enforcement officers, and protect the public, is by deporting dangerous people who do them harm. If a migrant commits the crime of assaulting an officer or other first responder, they should be subject to immediate deportation,” Budd said.
“Our lawmakers must always back the men and women who protect and serve our communities. We must act on this vital proposal,” he added.
The House version of this is H.R. 31. Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY-02) is the sponsor of this bill.
Congressional Republicans, along with President Donald Trump, are moving quickly to solve America’s illegal immigration problem.
The first legislation Trump made law in his second term occurred on Wednesday when he signed the Laken Riley Act.
The act is named after Laken Riley, who was killed by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela while jogging.
This law says federal authorities must detain illegal immigrants accused of “theft, burglary, assaulting a law enforcement officer, and any crime that causes death or serious bodily injury,” according to a U.S. Department of Homeland Security press release.
“This law restores commonsense to our broken immigration system. Under President Trump, violent criminals and vicious gang members will no longer be released into American communities,” United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said.
